If I 'Study' #Sunni #islam (having little to do with @SunniAndTheCity :-P ), does that make me "a Member of #TheTaliban (or -of The #NEWTaliban, or -of a #NEWERTaliban)?" | @MCEzone @ShiaPen

Joining a discussion about "Christians' fear of an allegedly-murderous Taliban regime" (a discussion that'll pay you to participate), I 'get my attention turned' to the Muslim denomination of Sunni (as Taliban literally means "Students (of Sunni Islam)").

The discussion is linked through 'that word' below; but first I want to understand that word better. And I find you understand words better if you look at 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum)

The word "Islam" (I'm telling you from memory) is built on words that mean Peace (#PBUH - Peace Be Upon Him)
Going ahead and looking it up, I see that the word's only related to Peace; the actual base-word means something more like "to Resign, Surrender, |Submit (to the Will of God/|Allah)" (causative of "he was Safe").

#Islamic #Islamist #Muslim #Islamophobia #Mohametry #Muhammadism #Ismailism

The word “Sunni” is built on ancient words that mean Way, Custom, Course, Tradition, Usage (a denomination founded not on the Quran (the written teachings of |Muhammad), but -on the teachings of his disciples & the foundations of his actions). #Sunnite

They're a major branch of Islam; the other branch being the #Shia. The main difference is that the Shia believe that Muhammad's spiritual- & political-authority passed to his son, while the Sunni awarded it politically (to one of their fellow scholars).

The word "Shia" is built on ancient words that mean Partisans, Followers, |Sect, Company, Faction. #Shiah #ShiAh #Shiism #Shiite

I don't know if this is 'in line with The Differences between the #OldTaliban and the New Taliban,' but this is what I find out about Sunni Islam ... the Fundamental foundation:
(and--since I went and typed all the Sunni beliefs--) 5 Principles of Shia Muslims
  • Tawhid (): Allah (first mention of him (by name) that I see) is the only God in the world. He is not born of anyone nor gave birth to any one, nor is any one like Him.
  • Prophethood (): Muhammad (PBUH) is the last prophet of Allah. Shia Muslims believe in all the Prophets that God has appointed to guide mankind.
  • Imamat (successor of Rasulullah): After the prophet, there are 12 Imams. Responsible for guidance and leadership of Muslims, the Imams are appointed by Allah.
  • Fairness (Justice, Adelat, Adi): Allah is Fair, he doesn't oppress anyone. God does not punish people who have obeyed and worshipped Him, and does not reward people who have disobeyed Him.
  • Resurrection (Ma'aad on the day of Qiyamat): All mankind will be resurrected on the day of Judgment. To be judged for their actions and rewarded-or-punished, depending on each individual's worldly conduct
Looking-that-up, I see a few memes that declare that Shia is the true Islam; and it reminds me of the many 'declarations' that "Roman Catholicism is the true Christianity" 😏
