So I had a post that I rewrote everyday to replace 'yesterday's birthday-cohort' with 'today's birthday-cohort.' One day I asked myself, 'Why don't I just do an entry for every day (with that day's cohort & holidays & maybe its event-anniversaries)?'

That way I can go back & input new birthdays & events etc. Like today (National #DevilDogs Day ... which is also National-Prime Rib-, -Tell a Story- & Babe Ruth-Day).

That holiday's explanation is linked through 'the main word' below; but I feel it's more important to understand that word better. And I find that you understand words better when you look at the other words at the bases of the words you're thinking-of ...
The word “Devil Dog” is this kind of cake, named after the WWII Germans' name for the U.S. Marines whom they regarded as #Devil Dogs with Persistent Determination under Enemy-Fire. 
The word "Devil" is built on ancient words that mean "to Throw (Reach) Across or -Through" (to Slander, |Attack ... though I've heard that the word has a C.A.N.O.E.-meaning of "the Seam between |Planks on a Ship's |Hull," giving the phrase "Pay the Devil" its original meaning: 'Hang over the side of the boat and Spread |Caulk over the Seams').
