#TenMinuteBibleHour tells us Which Version of #TheBible is Best | @MattWhitmanTMBH @BibleProject @OverviewBible @CopelandNetwork @Pontifex @SGI | #Bible #Biblical
Matt Whitman describes the useful (and insufficient) qualities of versions of The #Bible:
Needless to say, those are just five of the many-many available versions (translated into many-many other languages ... some of the versions being presented in many different media-formats) ...
The word “Bible” is built on ancient words that mean “Paper, |Scroll, Book as a Division of a Larger Work” ( |Biblio-, the Scriptures).

a few that I can think-of (used by Kenneth Copeland Ministries, the Roman Catholic Church (which includes 'the Deuterocanonicals' (Catholics' name for 'the Apocrypha')—and maybe other different versions are used by different denominations ... and if a different church uses a totally different Bible, it's often considered 'a different religion' (though I 'know' that all religions are different forms of Buddhism)):
- The Message
- I hear about The Tyndale Bible
- which might be related to The Gideon's Bible (the one you find 'left by The Gideons' in hotel-rooms)
- ... I can't remember the name of the 'directly from the Hebrew/Greek'-version (I think maybe Young's Literal Translation (YLT)), but I usually link to the BibleHub Interlinear when I write about The Bible online (tho the version I read regularly is an NIV ...
- (... the first version I ever read was a KJV, the first one I ever 'bought with my own money' was an NLT,
- (Well, the first version I ever read 'for fun' was probably the six-book set of books like this one)
- And I think Protestants threw the Deuterocanonicals out of the Catholic Version (renaming those books 'the Apocrypha') because those books painted Jesus as more of a 'regular guy who gained His position by following God obediently' than the 'special, anointed-since-birth (since before the world began) begotten-child of God'
The 'Guides on the Path that's Set by The Bible':
- Heaven - the popular name for Christians' idea of paradise (namesake/eponym of The Heavens–i.e. The Sky–possibly because 'Lord Jesus Christ ascended into the heavens after His death & resurrection)
- Yahweh (the main Anglicization of יהוה (YHVH ...yod-heh-vav-heh) popularly known as God, Jehovah, Our Father, The Highest ... Jove?)
- The Angels
- Lord Jesus Christ - motivational speaker whose teachings were so influential as to inspire His disciples to promote Him as Our Father's 'Chosen One' ('Anointed' is The Meaning of 'Christ') to audiences around the world
- Jesus' Earthly Parents - both from the family-line (but obviously seperate enough to avoid inbreeding)
- Joseph - A Carpenter
- The Virgin Mother Mary
- The Disciples
- Saint Paul (formerly Saul, a Roman who persecuted early Christians until he was visited by The Resurrected Jesus on The Road to Damascus, when he then went on to write the letters that became The Epistles (which make up most of the New Testament))
- Saint Simon Peter
- Judas Iscariot
- Saint Jude (the other Judas, and my (Catholic) Paitron Saint)
- Saint James
- John the Baptist
- Adam & Eve - 'the original two humans' whom God created (ostensibly 'a type' that illustrated how God created ALL humans (explaining 'who Cain married & lived-among when he fled after killing Abel')
- Abraham (formerly Abram, but renamed by God when Abram 'left his father & mother, and became "a stranger in a strange land" who would become "The Father of Many Nations"')
- his wife Sarah (formerly Sarai, but renamed by God when it was announced that she'd be 'the Mother of Many Nations')
- Isaac - Abraham's first legitimate son (born to him in his & Sarah's old age ... the first son being illegitamate with his servant-girl Hagar) who–instead of passing 'The Inheritance Blessing' to his eldest son Esau–was "fooled" into passing it to ...
- Jacob (whom Yahweh renamed "Israel," although people always called Yahweh 'the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob), who had 12 sons—the second-to-last of which was also named Joseph, who was sold into slavery, imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, inspired to saved the world with agricultural strategy, and lifted to second-in-command of the Kingdom of Egypt
- Moses - the Hebrew who led his fellow Hebrews out of Egyptian slavery
- his brother Aaron, who became the first Jewish high priest on the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt
- Moses' wife (whom he met when he ran to the desert to escape murder-charges)
- Joshua - who took over for Moses when he died.
- King David
- King Solomon
- Hell
- Satan (The Angel (known (in The Book of Isaiah) as Lucifer - Bringer of Light ... but originally (in The Book of Enoch) known as Gadriel (or however they spell it) who became The Devil)
- The Demons
And of course there are several (hundred? thousands? ... dozens?) of English-translations of the Christian Bible ... and many Bibles of different religions, including
- The Jews' Torah & Talmud (Judaism's 'origin-story' & 'later scholarly wisdom' ... reminds me of Christianity's Old Testament & New Testament—God's 'foundation of the Earthly Kingdom' & 'later apprenticeship in the royal hierarchy of God')
- The Muslims' (Islamic) Qur`an (dictated to the prophet Muhammad by the angel Gabriel)
- The Buddhists' Lotus Sutra (Sanskrit सद्धर्मपुण्डरीक सूत्र - Myoho Renge Kyo - a 'transcript' of a well-known Enlightened One's lecture given to his followers from atop 'Vulture Peak' (I almost got that mixed up with 'Eagle Mountain')
- Satanists' (at least, Laveyan Satanists') Satanic Bible (not 'inspired by Satan/Lucifer & his fallen assistants,' but more like 'an authoritative text on the virtues of exploring one's own beliefs & ways-of-thinking')
I feel like I should mention that–although many of the above links lead to 'offers from Amazon' which will pay a small fraction to me if-&-only-if you decide there to take-them-up on their offer–my commission doesn't raise your price ('hearkening' to Jeff Bezos's policy that profit doesn't matter so much as growth).
