A&E Television Networks' HISTORY explains Buffalo Soldiers in a report linked through 'those words' below; but first I want to understand those words better. And I find you understand words better if you look at 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum)
#Buffalo Soldiers were Black Soldiers who served on the |Western Frontier ("... where the Buffalo |Roam ...") after the American Civil War.
The word “Buffalo” is actually the name of an African (later Asian or |Mediterranean) animal, possibly built on ancient words that mean |Ox, Bull, |Cow. But--much the same way we Americans took the word "Football" and reassigned it to 'our version of Rugby'--we took the word 'Buffalo' and applied it to the American Bison.
I sometimes get a little 'thrill' from realizing that I have the same birthday as several famous people, and enough other people get that thrill from seeing their birthday-cohort (both the currently-famous & the probably-not-yet famous) that I figure it's worth doing 'one of these entries for every birthday' ...
