Is There a Penalty for Calling Something a "Meme" when it's not a #Meme? @Quora might tell us

--and calls it a "meme."

|That word| seems important; so I found out a little more about |that word| (below-linked to a 'sharing' of the post which brought |that word| to my attention) and share my findings with you below---maybe I'll add some notes beneath (and/or you might start/continue the discussion in the comments).
The word |Meme| ("an Idea, Behavior or Style that Spreads from Person to Person within a Culture," coined by Richard Dawkins in "The Selfish Gene" (where the word echoes "Gene")) is built on Greek sources like the ancient words that mean "to Imitate" (see Mime ...
(in the Digital Age, it evolved to mean "an Image or Snippet of Video or -Text considered Witty or Incisive that is Spread Widely & Rapidly by Internet-Users).
just like #Memes ... is #Memetic a word? #Memetically?
 #Memetics?

To Keep Up on My 'Research,'

We need a name for the new replicator, a noun that conveys the idea of a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation. 'Mimeme' comes from a suitable Greek root, but I want a monosyllable that sounds a bit like 'gene'. I hope my classicist friends will forgive me if I abbreviate mimeme to meme. If it is any consolation, it could alternatively be thought of as being related to 'memory', or to the French word même. It should be pronounced to rhyme with 'cream'.
