Did @MARVELstudios & @NETFLIX Redefine #Reboot with their Retcon of Reality in the @SpidermanMovie #NoWayHome?
I discuss MARVEL STUDIOS' & NETFLIX's 'incidental collaboration to redefine that word' in a paying discussion you can access through the bold hyperlink below; but first—there might be something more to that word ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which the our lexicon stands ...
The word “Reboot” is (obviously) built on “Re- + the verb #Boot.”
I first heard it as a computer-operation—'shutting it down and starting it back up,' possibly even 'unplugging it & letting it cool-down a little first.'
It's actually the way programmers start up computers---not by flipping a switch, but by loading an operating-system an operating-system into its memory.
Then (and possibly "influenced by" that meaning) I heard it applied to shows (mostly movies) that are 're-imaginings of old favorites.'
That sense of "Boot" is actually short for #Bootstrap, the program-type that technicians named after the (Impossible) Task of #PullingYourselfUpByYourOwnBootstraps, a Figurative Description of '|Bettering Yourself by Rigorous, Unaided Effort."
And of course there are the various ancient words that refer to "the Covering for the Foot and Lower Leg" (words that also refer to "the Fixed External Step of a Train's Coach" and "the Low |Outside Compartment used for |Stowing |Luggage" (which is also Britain's name for 'what Americans call a Trunk')).

Or maybe I'm looking at it wrong—that's one reason
