The word “Skyscrapers” is Chicago-slang applied to buildings that were (for that time-period) abnormally tall buildings—buildings that seemed to Scrape the Sky (also used for 'the Ornament |Atop a Tall |Building, (C.A.N.O.E.-confirmed original use) Light |Sails at the Top of |Masts ... also called |Cloud-|Cleavers), Very |Tall Men, High-|Flying |Birds, and the Name of a Famous Racehorse).

There are a few ways to celebrate Skyscraper Day; but the way I'm celebrating it is just by sharing this list of the world's tallest skyscrapers:

Tho I think I will follow one of T.A.D.'s suggestions—studying the science & engineering behind these architectural marvels ... but not right now, except to post pictures of the first skyscrapers:

I sometimes get a little 'thrill' from realizing that I have the same birthday as several famous people, and enough other people get that thrill from seeing their birthday-cohort (both the currently-famous & the probably-not-yet famous) that I figure it's worth doing 'one of these entries for every birthday' ...
