'impossible' #Pursuit: to 'Compulse' the Entire #MissionImpossible ('Sleeping: Optional' LoL) Franchise (like @getFandom already has, but More Wordily Nerdily & Tweepily Cheapily @Twitter @MissionFilm @IMFupdates @MissionMemes @Ethan77079079 @NewsImpossible ... @Cary_Elwes? (was he in them at all?) | @Yahoo @ProProfs @BuzzFeed @uQuiz @playbuzz @Play_Quizzes

I just watched (re-watched, sure; but it'd been a while), and I thought, 'Whoa, I remember the late-1980s version of this! and the main REASON I watched it was "to follow 'Ethan Hunt' (or whoever the main disguise-guy was ... Nicholas Black in the '80s series, Rollin Hand & The Great Paris in the original)." And then we come to the fact that--in the latest series of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-sequels ... well, I don't want to spoil it for those who loved the old TV-series but haven't caught up on the Tom Cruise movies;

so I'll top this SPOILER ALERT with |that word| (linked to the franchise's FANDOM-page) & a collection of words that helped make that word what it is today ...

The word |Pursuit|” (a 'synonym' of MISSION) is perched high on the tower above the proto-word *sekw-, which built-upon with ancient words that mean "to Follow Forward (Search, |Chase with Hostile Intent, |Persecution, |Escort, Attend, Accompany, Carry on, Continue, try to |Overtake ... see Pro-)."
just like #Pursue #Pursues #Pursued #Pursuing #Pursuits #TrivialPursuit #Pursual #Pursuance #Pursuant #Pursuer #Pursuals #Pursuances #Pursuers

To Keep Up on My 'Research,'

the classic board game well worth the 44+ dollars for players 16-&-up!

But ... then we come to the fact that the Tom Cruise movies make 'Ethan Hunt' THE leader! (I think the TV-shows just had him as 'a member of the team')

Maybe Tom Cruise (or his staff) wrote these movies for me (as sort of a "Make a Wish" favor from me when I was on my death-bed). Or maybe he & I share some psychic link---my birthday's about a week (and a few decade) after his, we're both former employees of the same movie-theater company, we both thought about going to seminary before 'doing what we ended up doing' ...

Or maybe he's a result of my going back in time from the future!

Anyway ...

  • The first MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-series was a television series that went from 1966 to 1973
    • where Dan Briggs (for the first season, then Jim Phelps for the rest of the series) leads a secret American government agency known as the #IMF (Impossible Missions Force).
    • Every episode followed the formula, "Tape Scene - Dossier Sequence - Apartment Sequence - The Mission - Conclusion."
    • The Mission (I've never seen this show, I'm just going off of what I think FANDOM says) was usually 'to make an enemy think they were somewhere- & sometime when it wouldn't matter if they confessed to a crime.'
  • Then there was TV's MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE from 1988 to 1990
    • It's a continuation of the first series (though it was originally going to be a remake of the original)
  • And Tom Cruise's MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE film-series
    • MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE
      • has the added genre-element of "Science-Fiction" (which I didn't see in the FANDOM-descriptions of the first two films)
      • FANDOM also says Ethan Hunt is a "new agent" (and they're right, from the audience's perspective), but I get the feeling--from Ethan's camaraderie with the team and his personal conversations with his mentor Jim Phelps (yes, the same character who's led the team since the second season of the original)--that Ethan's a tenured agent at the time.
      • I fell asleep partway through this--just after 'the whole team (except for Hunt etc.) died' and after Hunt's new team was stealing the NOC list--so I didn't see exactly when Hunt was cleared and made leader of the new IMF.
        • Maybe that happened off-camera between his 'goodbye' to Luther & his next Tape Scene (yes, they continued to do The Tape Scene through the second series and in a little bit of the film-series)
        • And the 'falling asleep'---I think I've done that in the middle of all the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-movies ... not to say that they were ever boring, but just because I usually watch them during my 'sleeping: optional'-time 😴
    • MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II
      • Essentially 'an episode of M:I with Hunt as "the established leader of IMF"
    • MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III
      • Hunt had retired from IMF and was getting engaged to be married, but the kidnapping of his protégé makes him go back into the fray, and her murder makes him want vengeance. His seeking vengeance puts his fiancée in danger; and that is an underlying theme through at least one sequel (again, it's been a while; and it's always 'SLEEPING: OPTIONAL')
    • MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL
      • i.e. what might happen if 'the government has to disavow any knowledge of the IMF-activities'
      • It's revealed that--in between movies--Hunt faked his wife's assassination so she'll be safe until ... until he no longer needs the cape-&-cowl ðŸ˜‹ ...
    • MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - ROGUE NATION
      • another episode ... high-quality, no doubt; but ... meh (I'm sorry, but--with the popularity of 'huge story-arcs' (in MARVEL, in lots of shows shown in streaming media)--I guess it's just 'not as interesting' if there's not a "cliffhanger"-element (something to come back & 'find out' about, something unresolved (maybe to come back again & find clues for) ...
    • MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT
    • MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - DEAD RECKONING PART ONE
      • I notice that this is one with Cary Elwes in it (maybe he was in the others, but I didn't notice those)
      • I haven't seen this one (only came out a week-or-so ago), but The Tape Scene (shared on FANDOM) reveals 'how Hunt originally came to IMF---as an option to 'going to prison.'
    • MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - DEAD RECKONING PART TWO (out June 2024)
Then--as usual--I asked which M:I character I'm most like and found out
  • ProProfs says I'm William Brandt
  • BuzzFeed says I'm Ilya Faust (of the M:I - FALLOUT characters, based on my random preferences)
  • uQuiz says I'm Ethan Hunt
    • You're quick on your feet, a go-getter, and the star of the show. Despite any impulsiveness you may possess, everyone forgives you because you're so darn likable. You have a heart of gold, but stop feeling the need to take control of everything. Maybe it's hard to trust others sometimes, but it'll all turn out alright eventually.
  • uQuiz ALSO says I'm William Brandt
    • You kind of just exist man idk what to tell you. You aren't a bad person but you dont try to get too close to the people around you. Tbh you are pretty chill but can get very stressed under pressure. You like to analyze the situation at hand but often fail to see the bigger picture. As Benji says in Ghost Protocol "you're the helper" and you really act like it.
  • playbuzz says I'm Ethan Hunt (in M:I - ROGUE NATION)
    • (even though I think my answers were more like 'Benji' (or whoever the computer-guy is in this sequel))
    • ... a determined person who likes a little bit of risk in life ... very athletic and--when I put my mind to something--I'll make sure it happens ... would do well as a field agent
  • The Famous Personalities says I'm Luther Stickell (in M:I - DEAD RECKONING)
    • Luther Stickell, portrayed by Ving Rhames, is a loyal and reliable member of the Mission: Impossible team. Known for his technical expertise and problem-solving abilities, Luther is the go-to person when it comes to handling complex missions. Could you share Luther's knack for navigating through challenging situations?
  • uQuiz (yes, those guys AGAIN) say I'm Mission: Impossible II
    • You're a big ho, but it's ok, no one is judging you. You have a strong eccentric personality. You might have gone through an intense anime phase in your teens. You like to let loose and have fun and aren't afraid of what others might think of you. (Also You may or may not think that COVID-19 is a man-made virus)
    • only 19% of respondents fit this movie-type
  • And--of the M:I - ROGUE NATION characters--playbuzz says I'm Ethan Hunt
    • the man of the hour. You have a wide variety of skills, ranging from excellence in aerobics to holding your breath under water for long periods of time. While many things in your life require your strict attention, you must be wary of becoming so laser-focused that you shut out others. Being a lone wolf is cool, but by keeping in touch with family and friends, you will be in the best position to achieve success!
      • ... and others if I wanted to explore past 'the first page of results' ...
I might blog 'the bios of those- and all the other-characters, but first there are a lot of other personality-quizzes these quiz sites are offering me ...
