#HappyBirthday to @MichaelBuble & @AdamSandler & ... you? (the #September9 #BirthdayCohort) on #TeddyBear Day | @HolidaysCalendr @WardrobeShop @BirthdayMates #TheFamousPeople @YourTango @MySundayMass

... or -on 'whichever of these holidays &or event-anniversaries you celebrate!'

X explains Y in a report linked through 'that word' below; but first I want to understand that word better. And I find you understand words better if you look at 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum)

The #Teddy Bear was named for U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919), a noted big-game hunter, whose conservationist fervor inspired a comic illustrated poem in the New York Times of Jan. 7, 1906, about two bears named Teddy, whose names were transferred to two bears presented to the Bronx Zoo that year. The name was picked up by toy dealers in 1907 for a line of "|Roosevelt bears" imported from Germany. Meaning "Big, |Lovable person" first attested 1957, from the song popularized by Elvis Presley.
The word “Teddy (or #Teddies)” is a pet form of |Theodore, |Edmund & Edward (with #TeddyBoy for an Edward or a young boy who prefers Edwardian styles), -a word for a style of Women's Underwear (intended to invoke the Soft-&-|Cuddly sense of a Teddy Bear), & -a word for a group of U.S. Troops in |France (inspired by Theodore Roosevelt).

I sometimes get a little 'thrill' from realizing that I have the same birthday as several famous people, and enough other people get that thrill from seeing their birthday-cohort (both the currently-famous & the probably-not-yet famous) that I figure it's worth doing 'one of these entries for every birthday' ...

Today's Birthday-Cohort

Astrologically, their sign is Virgo ... no matter WHICH stars they were born under: Adam Sandler, Hugh Grant, Leo Tolstoy, Colonel Sanders (an actual person, the founder of KFC (officially "Kentucky Fried Chicken," but it's probably not actually "Kentucky-Fried" anymore)), Otis Redding, Michael Bublé, Chaim Topol (Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof) ... and lots more I don't recognize (maybe you do recognize some ... you can find the date at the birthday-cohort link)

(and--if you or someone you know about has a birthday today
--please mention them (and how you know them or -know
about them) in the comments, thanks)

My Heart of the Nation calendar says that we (Catholics) are celebrating St. Peter Claver, with the clergy wearing White Vestments for the Memorial
