The word “Plaids (\ #Plaid)” (which Etymonline says is a Long Garment of Woolen Cloth, often Decorated with a #Tartan Pattern) is built on ancient words that mean Blanket, |Mantle (possibly from words that mean Sheepskin).
The word "Tartans" is built on ancient words that mean Silk Cloth of |Tyre (later used for the Woolen- or |Worsted Cloth woven with Crossing Stripes of Color, distinctive of |Scottish Highlanders).

I sometimes get a little 'thrill' from realizing that I have the same birthday as several famous people, and enough other people get that thrill from seeing their birthday-cohort (both the currently-famous & the probably-not-yet famous) that I figure it's worth doing 'one of these entries for every birthday' ...
