#HappyBirthday to the #May14 #BirthdayCohort (with #GeorgeLucas @GeorgeLucasILM AND? #RobertZemeckis @zemeckis_robert and ... you?) on #StarsAndStripesForeverDay @LibraryCongress @ArmyFieldBand @DanWright32 | @411Holidays @BirthdayMates @YourTango @MySundayMass

So I had a post that I rewrote everyday to replace 'yesterday's birthday-cohort' with 'today's birthday-cohort' (so you can see whose birthday-cohort you're a member-of). One day I asked myself, 'Why don't I just do an entry for every day (with that day's cohort & holidays & maybe its event-anniversaries)?

'That way I can go back & input new birthdays & events etc. Like May 14's " #StarsAndStripes Forever" Day ... & International Dylan Thomas-, National Buttermilk Biscuit-, National Chicken Dance-, Shades- & Underground America-Day, and Fantastic Friday: Giving Sharks a Voice (2021, and the Second Friday of every May).

Some of the song's history is linked through 'the main word' below; but I feel it's more important to understand that word better. And I find that you understand words better when you look at the other words at the bases of the words you're thinking-of ...

The song “Stars-&-Stripes Forever” celebrates America's Flag (which is also known as 'The Stars-&-Stripes' for the Stars and the #Stripes central to its design).
The word |Stripes| is built on ancient words that mean "to Stroke, |Rub, Press" (also Whip with the Lash (e.g. #ByHisStripesWeWereHealed) ... |Strigil). #Stripe #Striper #Striped #Striping #CandyStriper #PinStripe #Outstrip

And I Wonder What Saints' Day my Heart of the Nation calendar says this is:

St. Matthias the Apostle; with the clergy in Red Vestments for the Feast

And--though I feel that Lyrics often ruin Music (maybe that's one reason the LOC doesn't include all the lyrics at the report above)--I felt that I should print the lyrics here---

both Sousa's little bit of verse that he felt fit the theme:
Let martial note in triumph float
And liberty extend its mighty hand
A flag appears 'mid thunderous cheers,
The banner of the Western land.
and the lyrics to the rest (some of which are carried in the two choral sections, though most of the Army Field Band's performance is the way that ALL of Sousa's band's performances usually were ... totally instrumental, or at-least 'with the instruments drowning out the vocalists until "Hooray!"):
Unfurl the banner and raise it to the sky! Let eagle cry from mountain high, the never ending watchword of our nation Now be-hold the gem of old, the won-der of the western sky. The emblem of the brave and true, the flag of our liberty, flag of our destiny, Red and white and starry blue stream out of the banner so high. Ev‘ry heart will sing a part as all a-cross the land we raise our voices Far and near, for all to hear, the echo of a chorus grand! Ev‘ry heart will swell with pride to sing of our liberty, sing of our destiny A with joy we now extol the flag waving over the land Let us all hail the flag in one accord let us cheer it with fervid elation It’s the flag of the martyrs gone before, it’s the flag of flags, the banner of our nation It’s a beacon for all who share our dream of a new day with out domination, it’s the hope of the peoples now op-pressed, and a symbol of their own emancipation. Hooray for the flag of the free. May it wave as our standard forever. The gem of the land and the sea, ever hoist it proud and high! All nations remember the day when our fathers with mighty endeavor pro-claimed as they marched to the fray that by their might and by their right it waves forever. Ev’ry time the people hear the bell of freedom calling, calling one and all, Ev‘ry living patriotic citizen will answer, answer freedom’s call. Bold and gallant souls come forth to bear the cross of duty. Rising up as one to fight and die behind the flag of freedom’s beauty. Patriotic hearts will falter never, following the stars and stripes forever Marching to the quest to east or west they quell dis-tress, The freed op-pressed cry out: Hooray for the flag of the free! May it wave as our standard forever, the gem of the land and the sea, ever hoist it proud and high@ All nations remember the day when our fathers with mighty endeavor pro-claimed as they marched to the fray. Defended by our might, ever standing for the right, It waves forever. Hail to the banner that waves the stars and stripes! We give our lives, for stars and stripes!
