I don't know if 'this' is the HIGHLANDER armor; I searched "Scottish Highlander Plaid armor," and this BRAVEHEART- display was near the top. That was one of the first 'nitpicks' I picked up from HIGHLANDER 2 ... even though he had just remembered some erased memories of his being sentenced to exile from the planet Zeist, he introduced himself (right after killing two 'Immortal' aliens who attempted to kill him) as "Connor McLeod of the Clan McLeod."

Sure, maybe he explained the whole 'exile from Planet Zeist'-angle between scenes (after the battle in the alley and before 'his new girlfriend' summarized his explanation ... actually, her summary reveals that he did mention 'the other planet' there—a "blink (your ears)-and-you'll-miss-it"-comment (before a full video of 'pointing-out the other glaring errors')).

The reason? Well, the explanation starts with 'the original inspiration'—a suit of armor worn by a member of the actual Highlanders - a warrior clan that actually did split up & migrate far-&-wide over the world (as it's said the Immortals did).

Why was the area called "the Highlands"? I'm not exactly sure ... I mean, I'm sure there's "a simple explanation" somewhere inside the 'heavy reading' here; but I haven't searched long enough to find it.

'That word' (below-hyperlinked to ) is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...

The word “Highlands” is of-course a combination of the words "|High" and "|Land" (and is the name of "a |Mountainous |Region of |Scotland).

I wanted to see 'why they called the area "The Highlands."' I thought 'maybe they're called that because they're just above "The Lowlands"' and searched Bing Maps for both "Scottish Highlands" (which found the 'so-labeled area' on the map) and 'Scottish Highlands' (which only brought up "Scottish Lowland Families"—a lineage-research business (which might find some of my ancestral roots ... my ancestors being 'North Irish' that might've migrated from- or intermarried with-Scottish Lowlanders)).

The Wikipedia-page I linked-to above does make the 'Highlands/Lowlands'-distinction clearer, but (as the Bing Maps search showed me) I guess 'no one wants to be known as "a Lowlander."'
