Find Your Life's Purpose without Being #Overwhelmed | @VOX

... hmm ... hyperlinked through the bold text below, you might find VOX's article a little bit 'TL;DR' (especially if--like me--you're more used to 'basic outlines with a few lines of commentary), but I'll summarize it below the subscribe bar.

The word “Overwhelmed” is built of "Over-" + ancient words that mean "to Turn Upside Down" (or maybe -that mean "to Submerge Completely (as if you were in a Boat that has been 'turned upside down' by a Big Wave).

To Keep Up on My 'Research,'

First, "Purpose" is not necessarily 'Meaning' or 'Passion' or Goal. It's a way-of-life that makes a marginal difference in the world (if it's something you're good at). Cultivating purpose in your life can prolong your life, can reduce depressive symptoms and can improve your satisfaction in life.

They've found four categories of purpose:
  • Creative - satisfied by the chances to perform
  • ProSocial - with the main goal of helping others
  • Financial
  • Personal Recognition
And people find their purpose in one of these ways (usually).
  • Proactively - they locate their goal and work toward it
  • Accidentally - they basically see the pragmatic results of what they've been doing all along
  • Peers - they pursue a passion similar to the one their colleagues pursue
