The word “Countdown” is built of a compound of Count & Down (a combination in use in America in reference to the |Launches of |Rockets or |Missiles, applied to 'Marking the Remaining Time before a Significant Event' ... it's also been applied to 'Announcing Each of the Finishing-Places (from Last to First) in a |Contest').
