Clearing up Confusion about the #USSR | @MerriamWebster

With all the news about Russia trying to invade Ukraine, I realize that I never really differentiated between 'Russia' and 'the whole U.S.S.R.'

I bring it up on the forum linked through 'the hyperlinks' below, and I find out that there are many others (mostly Americans) who basically thought the same thing. I'll do some research and clear up some of our confusion; but first I want to teach you about those words. And I find you understand words better if you see 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum into their Foundation)

U.S.S.R. stands for Union of #Soviet Socialist Republics (shortened to #SovietUnion, with Russia & Ukraine both being former-Republics of that Union ... the same way New York & New Jersey are States in "United States of America"---which is often shortened to "America" or "United States").
The word “Soviet” is built on ancient words that mean With Counsel (Assembly, #Council of Advisers).
"Council" is often confused with Counsel, but (the Verdict is Issued) only has the 'Group of Counselors'-meaning (rather than both the 'Advice'-noun- and 'to Give Advice'-verb-meanings), built on ancient words that mean "to Shout" (on the notion of 'Calling Together the Doctors & Disciples & Theologians & |Prelates & all the Wise People'). #Councilor #Councillor #Councils #Councilors #Councillors
