AWAKE TO RIGHTEOUSNESS!

Dear Partner,
Gloria and I want you to know how much we love and appreciate you and your standing with us throughout 2018. Your faithfulness to hold us up in prayer and to support us financially has kept us going strong through some hard spots, but also through some great victories. Today, we're in the best condition (as a ministry and personally) that we've been in for a long time. And the best is yet to come! Thank you for loving us.
I went to sleep last night with 1 Corinthians 15:34 on my mind: Awake to righteousness, and sin not." The lack of knowledge of righteousness is a huge hindrance to faith. But a lack of awareness of righteousness is even worse.
Notice that verse did not say, "Awake to holiness, and sin not." Righteousness and holiness are two different things. You can grow in holiness, but the moment you received Jesus as your Savior and LORD, you were MADE the righteousness of God in Him.
    Second Corinthians 5:21 says:
  1. For he hath MADE Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin: that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him
We did not "become" righteous, we were "MADE" righteous. Did Jesus sin? NO! He was made to be sin with our sin. Did we do anything to become righteous? NO! We were made righteous with His righteousness.
What does it mean to awake to–or to become aware of–righteousness? Righteousness is the ability to come boldly to the throne of grace & stand (or even sit) in the presence of a holy, sinless God without a sense of guilt or shame. After being made sin for us, Jesus went to hell and suffered our penalty. Then in the midst of that awful pit of suffering, The WORD of the Almighty God broke through, and Jesus became the first BORN FROM THE DEAD—BORN from sin to righteousness by The WORD of righteousness.
Remember 1 Peter 1:23?
  1. Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by The WORD of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
Can you see it? That's what happened to you and me. That's what should be shaping our thoughts, -our prayer lives & -everything else we do and say.
That is a righteousness consciousness that comes from the renewing of our minds from a sin consciousness.
Lets look at Hebrews 9:14:
  1. How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Hang on to the word purge, or cleanse.
    Now go to chapter 10:1-2:
  1. For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect
  1. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshipers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
The Greek text says the worshipers "once purified." Let's look at a perfect example of this at the tomb of Lazarus. Jesus said, "Take away the stone" (John 11:39). That's a righteousness consciousness speaking.
Martha said, "Lord, by this time he stinketh."
That's a sin- & death-consciousness speaking. Then, Righteousness Himself said, "LAZARUS, COME FORTH!" and he did!
"Yes, Brother Copeland, but that was Jesus."
I know it, and He purged and cleansed us of our sins with His own BLOOD and gave us His righteousness. When we wake up to that marvelous fact and renew our minds with His WORD concerning who we are in Him, Romans 5:17 will become a reality to us.
  1. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.
The New Living Translation says that they which receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness shall "live in triumph over sin and death." When you sin, repent. Take authority over that sin according to 1 John 1:9:
  1. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
See the word cleanse? It's the same word translated purge in Hebrews 9:14 and 10:2. Receive your cleansing by faith, not by feelings of guilt and shame. The key words upon which to ground your faith are "faithful and just," or righteous.
    James 4:7 says:
  1. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
You have submitted yourself to Jesus for forgiveness and cleansing. Now resist the feelings of shame and guilt. You are no longer 'the dirty.; You are now 'the cleansed.' REMEMBER THE BLOOD! USE IT! REMEMBER THE NAME! USE IT!
...
One small verse of Scripture says it all: "Beloved, I wish [or pray] above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in [good] health, even as thy soul prospereth" (3 John 2)! That is the very heart of your Father who sent his Son, Jesus. That is the very heart of Jesus—who gave Himself as a ransom for ALL, so that we can reign with Him from today throut etrnity. That's why Jesus is LORD. Rise up and take your place in Him!
Gloria and I love you so much, and consider it such a joy to pray and stand with you in faith every day!

P.S. First John 5:1-5, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition, is our message of victory throughout 2019:
  1. Everyone who believes (adheres to, trusts and relies on the fact) that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah) is a born-again child of God; and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of him (The Father's offspring).
  2. By this we come to know (recognize and understand) that we love the children of God: when we love God and obey his commands (orders, charges)—[when we keep his ordinances and are mindful of his precepts and teachings].
  3. For the [true] love of God is this: that we do His commands [keep his ordinances and are mindful of his precepts and teachings]. And these orders of his are not irksome (burdensome, oppressive or grievous).
  4. For whatever is born of God is victorious over the world: and this is the victory that conquers the world, even our faith.
  5. Who is it that is victorious over [that conquers] the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God [who adheres to, trusts in and relies on that fact]?
