I'm 'Kind of' #Social ... @SubstackInc @Medium @Dribbble @Discord @GitHub @JoinMastodon @Behance @SoundCloud @SpotifyUSA @Twitch @Linkedin @Pinterest @instagram @YouTube @Facebook /et al./

As I don't get out much, it's taken me a little longer to 'feel the effects' of "shelter in place" ... whereas most people go out everyday (to work/school, dining-out, seeing shows, shopping, etc.), I only 'go' to the doctor occasionally, -to church on rare-occasion, -to regular 'family meetings' (usually "reunion-sized parties," but also usually "just a breakfast or -a luncheon") & -to a few other rare meetings.

So I'm not quite the 'social butterfly' society wants us all to be; I'm more like 'a social lone-wolf'—I belong to- and occasionally 'run with'-the pack, but I mostly 'keep to myself.'

But what I'm realizing is (and here comes the "Duh!") 'if you're not Social with others, "other others" (usually "the first others' friends") won't be Social with you!'

You can probably see what I mean if you look at the bedrock beneath "Social" (which I originally listed when researching the hyperlinked post on 'siding with' certain political parties) ...

The word “Social" is built on ancient words that mean "to Follow; Group, Club."

To Keep Up on My 'Research,'

So I guess you can see how–when I say 'be social with'–I mean 'Follow'—confirmed (to my mind, at least) by Twitter (et al.)'s use of the word 'Follow': when you want to be alerted whenever a friend shares something new with their friends on the site, you click the "Follow"-button on their page!

And it seems like–all my life (even a little bit before The Internet was 'a big thing to society-at-large)–I've been 'social' that way ... only going out (to school, to church, to the Karaoke-bar, to the coffee-shop) when I hoped to 'meet people' (sometimes 'specific individuals I heard would be there,' more-often 'random associates who might be there').

Sure, I enjoyed- and got good at-the main things that the places featured (reading, writing, arithmetic, science, music & other trivia at school; worship (mostly singing, Scripture-reading & -interpreting) at church; the 'public-speaking'-phile-ish-ness needed for Karaoke); that was mainly just with 'the idea of having "the power" there' (e.g. being the marching-band's Drum Major, the violin-sections First Chair, the schools' Valedictorian, the church's masses' lector or -soloist ... or fantasies in that direction: the President (of the company, the Senate, the United States of America ... The World?), the Rock-Star, the Host-with-the-Most).

But ... obviously I got over-obsessed with 'the crafts.' That obsession (coupled with the handicaps from my Traumatic Brain Injury) made me 'a lone wolf.'

Since I'm 'a social lone wolf,' you'd EXPECT me to keep an eye on "all the social networks." But really, I've only looked at five or six of them (out of which I only really use three or four)! But now Buffer.com is introducing 20+ more to me.
Beside the ones I'm 'active' in ...
  • Twitter - where 'media that matters' hangs out
  • Facebook - where I find out family- & friends-news
  • YouTube - which I don't 'post' on (except for comments on others' posts), but I do 'watch' A LOT!
... and the ones I had started looking into ...
  • Instagram - where I'm mostly just an audience-member
  • Pinterest - which 'roped me in' a little more than Instagram did
  • LinkedIn - where I stashed my early dreams of doing ... something
  • Mastodon - kind of the 'decentralized' Twitter
... there's (that I'll probably start looking into soon)
  • Whatsapp - though that's 'mobile required,' and I'm not into that (at this time)
  • Snapchat - also 'mobile required,' and I'm not into that (at this time)
  • TikTok - also 'mobile required,' and I'm not into that (at this time ... either that, or I'm not interested in finding out at the moment)
  • SMS - a function in most phones, so maybe you can use it with me if you know my phone-number
  • Twitch - where you go watch others play video games
  • Spotify - free music videos
  • AppleMusic - also 'mobile required,' and I'm not into that (at this time)
  • BandCamp - also 'mobile required,' and I'm not into that (at this time)
  • Discord - "My" discussion-server
  • Dribbble - has a basketball for an icon, but isn't ABOUT basketball (unless members frequently design fashions for the sport)
  • GitHub - sharing code with coders, I think (I could be a coder, but I don't)
  • SoundCloud - sharing more music
  • Telegram - also 'mobile required,' and I'm not into that (at this time)
  • Behance - Creativity
  • Substack - surprised I didn't see this one earlier ... a veritable #WritersHub!
  • Medium - where good ideas find you
  • Clubhouse - requires equipment I don't have (mobile)
And Buffer.com also says PayPal & Patreon are "social sites"; but I've always thought of them more as "money sites" (in an anti-social way).
