#HappyBirthday to Y'all (in the #September29-#BirthdayCohort with @ZacharyLevi & @GwenIfill & ... You?) on #NationalVFWday | @HolidaysCalendr @BirthdayMates #TheFamousPeople @YourTango @MySundayMass

... or -on 'whichever of these holidays &or event-anniversaries you celebrate!'

Holidays Calendar explains #VFW Day (tho they don't exactly 'verify' "What 'VFW' stands-for") in a report linked through 'that word' below; but first I want to understand that word better. And I find you understand words better if you look at 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum)

VFW stands for #Veterans of #Foreign Wars
The word “Veterans” is built on ancient words that mean "Old, Aged for many Years, highly Experienced." #Vet #Veteran #Inveterate
The word “Foreign” is built on ancient words that mean "From Beyond our Door." #Foreigner

I sometimes get a little 'thrill' from realizing that I have the same birthday as several famous people, and enough other people get that thrill from seeing their birthday-cohort (both the currently-famous & the probably-not-yet famous) that I figure it's worth doing 'one of these entries for every birthday' ...

Today's Birthday-Cohort

Astrologically, their sign is Libra ... no matter WHICH stars they were born under: Ian McShane (I think he was in AMERICAN GODS), Madeline Kahn, comedian Andrew Dice Clay, Gene Autry, journalist Bryant Gumbel, psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (major supporter of FLOW), journalist Gwen Ifill, basketball-star Kevin Durant, Zachary Levi, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jon Brower Minnoch (heaviest human ever recorded---weighing an estimated 1,400 lbs. (or 635 kg, or 100 stone) at his peak-weight ... 'estimated,' because he was too large/immobile/sick to get onto a scale), Baroque-painter Caravaggio, Emperor Pompey, Russell Peters, Lech Walesa, Miguel de Cervantes, physicist Enrico Fermi, Elmina Wilson (first American female Master-of-Engineering) ... and lots more I don't recognize (maybe you do recognize some ... you can find the date at the birthday-cohort link)

(and--if you or someone you know about has a birthday today
--please mention them (and how you know them or -know
about them) in the comments, thanks)

My Heart of the Nation calendar says that we (Catholics) are celebrating St. Michael, -Raphael & -Gabriel (Archangels), with the clergy wearing White Vestments for the Feast
