Military.com explains the U.S. Coast Guard's founding in a report linked through 'that word' below; but first I want to understand that word better. And I find you understand words better if you look at 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum)
The U.S. Coast Guard was founded primarily to Enforce Trade-Laws and to Prevent Smuggling at the #Coast (though they do so much more).
The word “Coast” is built on ancient words that mean |Rib (from back when that Bone was regarded as an entire Side of the body ... leading to the word's use to describe an entire |Slope on a Hill or -Mountain, and the practice of Sliding Down that slope).
