#HappyBirthday to the #May5 #BirthdayCohort (including @DanielleFishel (Topanga, now Mrs. Karp) & #HenryCavill (@henrycavillhc?) & ... you?) on #NationalHoagieDay @NationalToday | @411Holidays @MySundayMass @Wikipedia @HelloRedShelf
So I had a post that I rewrote everyday to replace 'yesterday's birthday-cohort' with 'today's birthday-cohort.' One day I asked myself, 'Why don't I just do an entry for every day (with that day's cohort & holidays & maybe its event-anniversaries)?'
That way I can go back & input new birthdays & events etc. Like today (National #Hoagie Day ... also Cinco de Mayo, Bevrijdingsdag (Liberation Day, celebrating the end of the Nazi occupation (WWII)), World Maths- & National Astronaut-Day)
That holiday's explanation is linked through 'the main word' below; but I feel it's more important to understand that word better. And I find that you understand words better when you look at the other words at the bases of the words you're thinking-of ...
The “Hoagie” is named-after ... either (the now-defunct Philadelphia Bulletin said) the Hog Island shipyard where it was a lunchbox-staple for Italian immigrant workers' (such a popular meal that they named the sandwiches 'Hoggies,' but the South Philly accent warped it to 'the moniker that stuck'),
...or (and as the Philadelphia Almanac & Citizen's Manual claims) the Vendors (|HokeyPokey Men) who sold the sandwiches (a.k.a. Pinafores) to theater-attendees who called the sandwiches #Hokies (but with South Philly pronunciation).
I could dive into "finding out why the shipyard was called Hog Island and/or why the sandwich-makers were called Hokie-Pokey Men," but ... ehh, maybe later ...
Today's Birthday-Cohort
Astrologically, probably in the chart of Taurus: Henry Cavill (who's YOUNGER THAN ME!... no big deal, I just never realized I was 'older than SUPERMAN' before), Adele, Karl Marks, Tammy Wynette, Brian Williams, Danielle Fishel (Boy Meets World's Topanga? Yeah!), John Rhys-Davies, Lance Henriksen, Michael Palen, Hank Green (John Green's VLog-Brother DFTBA!)
(and--if you or someone you know about has a birthday today
--please mention them (and how you know them or -know
about them) in the comments, thanks)
And I Wonder What Saints' Day my Heart of the Nation calendar says this is:
no saint, with the clergy in White Vestments
