'That word' (below-hyperlinked to IDRL"s Dark Core test) is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...

The word |Dark| is built on ancient Bedrock beneath words that mean to Hide, Conceal; Sad, Cheerless, Sinister, Wicked (figuratively); Lacking |Light or -Brightness (especially at |Night), Obscure, |Gloomy - 
... theater-slang for Closed, the Dark Ages are any Historical Period that is 'characterized by Ignorance, Backward in Learning, Void of Intellectual Light' (the most-famous 'Dark Ages' are the years between the Fall of Rome & the Revival of Secular Literature); a Dark Horse is a Competitor (like with Racing Horses) about whom Nothing Certain is Known, or whose Identity is Secret in the Beginning.
