'That word' (below-hyperlinked to the Sydney Morning Herald's piece on several of the latest additions to the slang dictionary (listed here beneath my note on its root-words)) is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...

The word “|Slang|” is built on ancient words that mean “|Territory, Turf ( |Narrow |Piece of Land running up between |Other & Larger |Divisions of |Ground, Camp|ground for |Wandering Tramps & |Thieves (and the |Language they use there),” later extended to mean "the |Patter used in Advertising, |Vulgar Language, any Colorful & |Informal Way of |Expression"
(Linger, |Go Slowly, Sling, |Sway, |Dangle, |Throw, Move Freely, a |Gang, a |Band, (Sheep) |Going |Astray; Slangwhanger "|Noisy or |Abusive Talker or Writer").

  • Terms (you can find at the 'slang'-link above & at Urban Dictionary & Online Slang Dictionary & Urban Thesaurus) include:

('spilling' or 'having tea with someone' means you have gossip you have to share)
  • USA Today ... oop ('And I oop?') not 'a slang-term,' but apparently "the diverse group of reporters & editors being helped by people much cooler" (Rasha AliDavid Oliver and Amy Haneline ... it's not clear if they're 'USA Today' or 'the cool people who helped'—or both ...)

Or am I looking at that wrong (or 'wrongly' 🤓)? Tell
me how-wrong/right I am in the comments below 😁
