Interesting How the #SundaySchool-version of #ForbiddenFruit (in #TheGardenOfEden) is a #Euphemism for Mankind's Evil Hankering | @theBibleHub

That 'euphemism' is discussed at the forum linked through 'the main word' below; but I feel it's more important to understand that word better. And I find that you understand words better when you look at the other words at the bases of the words you're thinking-of ...

The word “Euphemism” is built on ancient words that mean “Good, Well ( |Eu-) + to Speak, Tell, Say (Voice, Utterance).” #Euphemistic #Euphemisms #ListOfEuphemisms #SayThisInstead #InsteadOfCussWords #InsteadOfVulgarity

There are many euphemisms listed here, but here's some that come to mind:
  • euphemisms for 'taking a restroom-break' (not necessarily for "what you do once you're in there")
    • looking for a corkscrew (coined by Brian Regan on COMEDIANS IN CARS GETTING COFFEE)
    • need to see a man about a horse
    • the good ol` 'Number One or Number Two'
    • In fact, 'peeing' or 'pooping' or 'taking a whizz or -dump' are all euphemisms for "urinating" or "defecating"
  • euphemisms for female genitalia
    • Coochie, Cooch - from "Hoochy Koochy," a suggestive dance whose name comes from the nonsense words of the song "The Ham-Fat Man."
  • Some of the 'euphemisms' (or 'translations safe for children to hear') from Genesis 3
    • "Snake" (we're taught that it's what "Serpent" means, but the use in Genesis 3 may be referring to ... something else (something mythical) ...)
    • "Fruit" (we're taught it's a morsel from a tree, but the original speech indicated it was ... something else----something they're not even supposed to touch ...)
      • In fact--now that I mention it--
    • "Tree" (we're taught that it's a plant in the middle of The Garden, but ... Pastor Murray mentions how the human body is frequently compared to a tree---each having a trunk, each having limbs ...)
    • when they saw that they were naked, they sewed the fig-leaves to cover---not 'where we're taught The Forbidden Fruit went,' but 'what y'know the Forbidden Fruit is!'
