'Those words' (below-hyperlinked to my post on Throat-anatomy) are built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...
The term “Vocal Cords” (I almost spelled it "Chord") is of-course made of the words “Vocal” & "Cords."
The word “Vocal” is built on words that mean “Voice” (Outspoken, Oral (as opposed to Instrumental) Music).
The word “Cord” is built on words that mean “Intestine” (as Strings for Musical Instruments were often made of Cat-Gut).
The term “Voice Box” is of-course made of the words "Voice" & "Box."
The word “Voice” is built on words that mean “to Speak” (Ability of a Singer, Expression of Feeling-etc., Invisible Spirit that Directs or Suggests (in the context of Insanity or -of Divine Inspiration)).
The word “Box” (if not imitative of a Blow, Thrash, Pummel, Striking or Beating with the Fist) is built on words that mean “made of Wood from the Box-Tree (Boxelder, Ash-Leaved Maple ... Acer Negundo)” (Barrel of a Gun, Compartment in a Theater, Pigeon-Hole in a Post-Office, Space Enclosed within Borders and Rules).
Or am I looking at that wrong (or 'wrongly' 🤓)? Tell
me how-wrong/right I am in the comments below 😁
