The name "Power Rangers (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers)" descends from the name of the Japanese show on which Hasbro modeled its show (Beast Rangers of the Dinosaur Corps, a spinoff--along with Turbo Rangers, Battle Rangers, Goggle Five Rangers & Ninja Rangers--of the Japanese series Super |Sentai). 


I don't know where the Japanese company got its use of #Ranger, but I know America's had #Rangers protecting its pioneering citizens for ... I don't know, Decades? Centuries? We've had The Lone Ranger (a show from 'the early days of television,' resurrected as a movie more-recently), Walker, Texas Ranger (both the former series starring Chuck Norris, and a recent 'reboot' I haven't seen much-of);

And of course, both those Rangers (as well as the name of a sports-team, I think) are based on The Real Rangers ... a Wilderness Police-Force? an "Elite Combat-Unit."

J.R.R. Tolkien's King Aragorn 'took a sabbatical from the throne' to become a Ranger of the North for a few years ...

I sometimes get a little 'thrill' from realizing that I have the same birthday as several famous people, and enough other people get that thrill from seeing their birthday-cohort (both the currently-famous & the probably-not-yet famous) that I figure it's worth doing 'one of these entries for every birthday' ...
