ALL the meanings of 'Bow' (including 'the violinist's tool (which was formerly curved like the archer's),' 'the bending over after a performance,' 'the front section of a ship' and 'the ornamental, looped knot') are based on ancient words that mean "to Bend" with derivatives referring to |Pliable, Curved objects.

I'm sure this'll have a lot of people thinking 'can't a rainbow mean both? can't it mean anything we want it to mean?' And I understand that wish. But if I'm waving a big rainbow-flag, chances are that you'll think I'm supporting the 'differently-preferenced' before you'll think that I'm glorifying the fact that we aren't underwater!
