@MSN presents a Slideshow of some little-known #BehindTheScenes @JEOPARDY Rules | #BehindTheScenery

Bing lists those rules in a slideshow linked through 'that phrase' below; but first I want to understand that phrase better. And I find you understand phrases better if you look at 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum)

The phrase “Behind the Scenes” is from the days of Staged Theater-Productions, when many Workers were given Roles that were Hidden from Audience-View by the Visible Scenery (today it applies mostly to the Unfilmed & Inaudible Roles in Movies & TV-Shows ... Cameramen, Costume-Designers, Makeup-Artists, etc.)

That slideshow listed the rules (and explains them in more detail):

  • The Age Requirements
  • The Anytime Test (Online)
  • The Limited Number-of-Times you can TAKE The Anytime Test (per Year)
  • Passing the Test Does Not Guarantee an Audition
  • The Audition includes Another Anytime Test (but In-Person)
  • It also includes a JEOPARDY! 'Scrimmage' (Fake Game)
  • If you pass the Audition, you'll spend the next year-or-two On-Call
  • It Helps if you're a JEOPARDY!-Fan
  • the one "everyone knows": the "answer in the form of a question"-rule
  • Winners have to 'struggle through' multiple episodes per day ...
  • ... but you Do get a Lunch-Break
  • You DO need to bring clean-clothes for each new episode
  • Strict dress-code
  • No extended breaks during the episode-taping
  • only Minor Editing
  • They're Not Flying-You-Out (to California),
  • but they ARE Covering Your Stay
  • You CAN'T Buzz-in before the Question is Read!
  • Questions are Set BEFORE the contestants are assigned
  • When you're called in, you STILL don't know which episode you're playing-in until that episode begins!
  • All the makeup is done by pros
  • the makeup is very minimal with NO MASCARA
  • the Small Talk is almost (but not quite) totally Scripted
  • Spelling Counts!
  • Being Energetic on-camera is a Good Strategy
  • There is indeed a Live Studio-Audience,
  • which includes a few of Your Friends & Family Members;
  • but you & they are incommunicado the whole studio-time
  • Host-Interactions are brief
  • The Champion does not lose that episode's winnings (until after JEOPARDY pays up 😉)
  • You're on the show until you lose
  • The losers DO get Consolation-Cash
  • And you get it IN Cash (or 'a Check' from the producing company)
  • meaning you have to sign tax-forms before filming
  • and your 'winnings' are taxed (MSN calls them 'earnings')
