And I find you understand phrases better if you look at 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum)
The phrase “Behind the Scenes” is from the days of Staged Theater-Productions, when many Workers were given Roles that were Hidden from Audience-View by the Visible Scenery (today it applies mostly to the Unfilmed & Inaudible Roles in Movies & TV-Shows ... Cameramen, Costume-Designers, Makeup-Artists, etc.)

- but you & they are incommunicado the whole studio-time

- The Champion does not lose that episode's winnings (until after JEOPARDY pays up 😉)
- You're on the show until you lose
- The losers DO get Consolation-Cash
- And you get it IN Cash (or 'a Check' from the producing company)
- meaning you have to sign tax-forms before filming
- and your 'winnings' are taxed (MSN calls them 'earnings')
