#Saxophone: Wonderful ... a little at a time @SteSierra | #Sax @WatchMojo #Saxophones #Saxophonist #Saxes #AngloSaxon #Sussex #Saxony #OldSaxon #Essex #Wessex #Middlesex

Stephanie lists the saxophone as one of her least favorite instruments in a tweet (where she asks what instrument you hate) linked through 'that word' below; but first I want to understand that word better. And I find you understand words better if you look at 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum)

The word “Saxophone" is built on the instrument's inventor's surname (Sax ... son of the man who invented the #Saxhorn) + ancient words that mean Voiced, Sounding (Phone).
The surname Sax is a variant of #Sachs, #Sacks ... literally #Saxon (the ancient German/|British/|Dutch tribe whose name meant "Warrior with Knives" (built on words that mean Cut ... including the name of a war-god #Saxnot)).

Here's a few times the sax was used tastefully (and a few where it overstayed its welcome)
