@TrevorNoah misinterprets the #FewBadApples Metaphor (where it's used to describe Dangerously Clumsy Cops) to use it to Accuse the Whole System of an Evil Scheme | @TheDailyShow

I'll link to his video in a second, but first I feel I have to correct his error.

He complains about people who describe "violent, vigilante-style cops" as 'just a few bad apples,' and then goes on to ask, "Where are all the GOOD apples?" He concludes that 'the co-op that PREPARES the apples' is turning them ALL bad, but (As I'll probably say below) the whole phrase is 'a few bad apples ruin the whole bunch'---the idea being that--if an apple that's gone bad is stored with a bunch of good apples--the rot that ruined the first apple easily spreads to the other apples.

I think the "rot" that makes all the 'good apples' into 'bad apples' is Fear---fear of the unknown, mostly; but also fear of a repeated 'trauma' suffered-or-witnessed early in one's career.

You listen to Trevor Noah's conclusion linked through 'the main words' below; but I feel it's more important to understand those words better. And I find that you understand words better when you look at the other words at the bases of the words you're thinking-of ...

The phrase “A Few Bad Apples” is part of the maxim "One '#Rotten Apple' (apple that's gone bad) Spoils the Whole #Barrel" (based on the earlier "For one rotten apple lytell and lytell putrifieth an whole heape")
The word "Rotten" is built on ancient words that mean "to Decay, |Putrefy" (to |Steep Flax). #Rot #Rottenness #Rotted #Rotting #DryRot #Ret #Rotgut #Rotter #Tommyrot
The word "Barrel" is built on ancient words that also mean |Cask, |Vat (also used for the Metal |Tube of a Gun, or the verb for Fast Movement (as might be compared to 'a Rolling Barrel')). #BarrelRoll (aeronautic maneuver) #OverABarrel #Barreled #Barreling #Barrelful #Barrelhouse #DoubleBarreled
