Fears are Nothing More than States-of-Mind (related to 'Worry')
You ever wonder why physicians aren't sick as often as non-physicians? One big factor is the fact that they do not fear disease!
The word "|Fear|" is built on "to |Try, Risk" (Danger, |Ambush, Harm, Distress, |Deception). 
The 'feeling of |Dread-&-Reverence for God'-sense probably comes from a Hebrew root that also means "Be Afraid, stand in Astonishment-&-|Awe of, Honor."
Napoleon Hill calls these big fears (under-which all the other fears can be categorized) "The Six Ghosts":

(I know it may seem like I'm 'focusing too much
 on the negative' here; I'll try to link each 'fear-
symptom' to "what you should think-of instead,"
 but please remember that these are 'obstacles' and not "facts of life.")
  1. POVERTY - a fear marked by Indifference, Indecision, Doubt, Worry, Overcaution, Procrastination, 
  2. CRITICISM - a fear marked by Self-Consciousness (shown through Timid-&-Awkward Nervousness), Lack of Poise, Weak Personality, an Inferiority Complex, Extravagance, Lack of Initiative, Lack of Ambition
  3. ILLNESS - Hypochondria (compounded by Auto-Suggestion, always finding ways to make yourself sick by thinking everything is 'symptomatic'), Not Enough Exercise, Lack of Immunity, Self-Coddling, Intemperance (taking drugs or drinking rather than identifying the problem)
  4. LOSS OF LOVE OF SOMEONE - marked by Jealousy, Fault-Finding, Gambling (& Stealing, Cheating & otherwise trying to get more money than you can earn).
  5. OLD AGE - marked by the Tendency to 'Slow Down' (Sloth?), develop an Inferiority Complex, to Call Yourself 'Old,' Killing-Off Initiative, Imagination & Self-Reliance
  6. DEATH - a fear marked by Preponderance on Dying rather than -on Living Life (due to lack of Purpose or Occupation)
And all these–Napoleon Hill tells us–are fueled by SUSCEPTIBILITY TO NEGATIVE INFLUENCES
