Reclassifying This Blog (like The Bible Reclassified "Book, Chapter, Testament"): Palace(s), full of Rooms, full of #Loci | #MethodOfLoci #Loki #Loci #Locus #Locate #Location
Referring to this (these) Mind-Palace(s)–inspired by Sherlock Holmes (actually from BBC's SHERLOCK, which upgraded Sir Arthur Conan Doyle "mind attic")–I found out that it's actually built on a pnumonic device called the Method of Loci.
Looking at it (and what I heard from 'the video that first told me about it'), Loci comes from the Greek for ... I want to say Location or Locate–& Etymonline links both of those to Locus (the entry that comes up if I search Etymonline for "Loci"—but I may have been distracted by the word's similarity to Loki (god of Mischief).
Anyway, 'That word' and 'the other words like it' (below-hyperlinked to the 'Room' that features the 'Loci' "Palace") are built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our Mind-Palace stands ...
The word "Loci" (a word also in many legal phrases) brings up “Locus (actually 'the singular form')” which is built on ancient words that mean Appointed Place, |Spot, Position, Locality, Region, Country, Degree, |Rank, Order, Topic (which closely resembles 'the Greek that translates into this Latin'), |Subject" (at the base of "Locate").
Just in case it means something different ... The name "Loki" is built on ancient words that mean "Knot, Lock" (both because The Trickster was associated with Magic & Fire (Knot-Like Puzzles) & because he is now serving an Eternal Sentence Chained to a Rock).
So 'this whole blog' is a Mind-Palace (or maybe "a complex of Palace," as it covers a wide range of topics). And each post ... I want to call each post 'a Room of the Palace,' but a) each room focuses on 1 or 2 'Loci' & b) some of the 'rooms' that do list other 'loci' link to those 'loci' as if they are different 'Rooms.'
Know anything else interesting about that? Comment!
