#Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist @ZoeysPlaylist @NBC | @CopelandNetwork #Zoe #Zoie #Zoë #ZoeysExtraordinaryPlaylist
I saw the pilot episode, and I'm 'hooked' (well, not 'reeled in' yet; more like 'nipping at the bait'). One of the previews that 'lured me in':
... actually, I hadn't even seen one preview for the show. I was just scanning ahead on the NBC schedule, saw the show-title and 'brief description,' and thought, 'Hmm! This could be interesting ..."
What brought me in? Was it 'the sci-fi/fantasy aspect,' or just the name "Zoey""
That name (below-hyperlinked to the show's YouTube page) is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...
The name “|Zoey| (Zoe, Zoie, Zoë)” is built on ancient words that mean “Life” (adopted by |Hellenized Jews as a translation of EVE ... Brother Kenneth Copeland uses the Greek word to describe the kind of Love that God is/seeks/gives in God's Children in the World).
I know you've already seen this (or don't want to ... and if you do want to, the 'Zoey'-link takes you where NBC plans to keep all the episodes), but–since some of the stuff I'll write about is 'more effective when you see it in-context'–
(it's not very sci-fi, but it does have 'the sci-fi/fantasy elements' I mentioned ... sci-fi like the premise of the AMAZON-movie YESTERDAY, fantasy like the "Once More with Feeling"-episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.)
First, phenomenal performance by Peter Gallagher as Zoey's father Mitch, who is dying of a neurological disease & is catatonic & unresponsive until Zoey sits with him for a while and confides about the secret feelings that her new ability makes her aware-of.
That's when Mitch breaks out in song ... and where I just lose it—I don't know if it's the writing or Gallagher's delivery of the song ("True Colors," made famous by Cyndi Lauper and/or Phil Collins), but it hits me ... it's as inspirational as "Standing Outside the Fire" (the Garth Brooks song with a video that features a student (with Cerebral Palsy) who goes out for the school's track-meet although it's obvious he won't win; but he trains hard for it & runs it anyway, and he runs the whole race (though he finishes dead-last, several minutes after the race is over))
I hope Mitch's storyline develops further—perhaps showing how people can help 'those of us with neurological problems' by "letting us on their team"– ... or maybe that's just 'me, projecting'—Mitch is still in 'beginning recovery,' and "letting him on the team" is more of a tactic for 'advanced recovery' (where I am & -will be for the rest of my life).
But I suspect that first the storyline will involve 'the modern variation of "Romance"' (not the good old 'knights of valor doing feats of derring-do to rescue- and/or win the heart of-the princess,' but rather 'co-workers are interested in spending more time with each other & so start dating & proceeding to marriage etc.')—
indicated by the last scene of the pilot-episode—where Zoey's close co-worker Max (whom you were probably sure was not-at-all interested in Zoey, as she did refer to him as her "best friend" and he did practically 'rush her into' talking to her crush Simon (who–neither Zoey nor Max knew–was engaged to get married) 'confesses his love for her' in song.
Though that storyline will probably flare-up at least once, the 'father'-storyline should stick around. In fact, I imagine Max will 'win' Zoey by helping her deal with her father's recovery ... and maybe Simon will suggest that method to Max.
But will Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist keep up its impressiveness? or will it sorta get old like CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND or glee?
And if it keeps going, will it explain something?: When (to us) she's watching people break into 'a well-choreographed "flash mob,"' does everyone in the scene actually just stay normal while she goes vacant? (kinda like they say happens on FAMILY GUY during flashbacks/cutaways)
... Hey! Maybe that's what's "wrong" with her father! He's sitting there mostly vacant while (to him) it's practically a Bollywood extravaganza!

Or am I looking at that wrong (or 'wrongly' 🤓)? Tell
