|Banana Bread| became popular back when 'bananas' (spelled that way, or spelled the way Stephen Colbert tells Gwen Stefani how to spell it) were usually too ripe to eat 'raw' by the time they got to the consumer; but they were just fine when baked into a #Bread.
The word |Bread| carries the scent of either "to |Boil, Bubble, Effervesce, Burn" (in reference to the leaven) or "a |Piece Broken off (to share)."

Foodimentary doesn't explain 'why today is Banana Bread Day,' but they do give us (along with some crucial facts about bananas) some other interesting things that happened on this date:

I sometimes get a little mind-spark from realizing that I have the same birthday as several famous people, and enough other people get that spark from seeing their birthday-cohort (both the currently-famous & the probably-not-yet famous) that I figure it's worth doing 'one of these entries for every birthday' ...
