Happy #PolkaDay (on #August9 ) & #HappyBirthday to @AnnaKendrick47 & @JesMacallan & that #BirthdayCohort | @ClevelandMag @411Holidays @BirthdayMates #TheFamousPeople @YourTango @MySundayMass

... or Happy 'whichever of these holidays & or event-anniversaries you celebrate!'

Cleveland Magazine explains a lot about #Polka in a report linked through 'that word' below; but first I want to understand that word better. And I find you understand words better if you look at 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum)

The word “Polka” is built on ancient words that mean "Female from Poland" and/or "|Half (for the |Half-Steps in the footwork of |Peasant-|Dances)" (a |Dance so popular that its name--used in the name of a Dot-Pattern--made #PolkaDots a big seller (on #PolkaDot-covered #PolkaHats & #PolkaSkirts etc.)).

I sometimes get a little 'thrill' from realizing that I have the same birthday as several famous people, and enough other people get that thrill from seeing their birthday-cohort (both the currently-famous & the probably-not-yet famous) that I figure it's worth doing 'one of these entries for every birthday' ...

Today's Birthday-Cohort

Astrologically, their sign is Leo ... no matter WHICH stars they were born under: Gillian Anderson (Scully on THE X FILES), Jes Macallan (pictured ... director of The Time Bureau in DC's LEGENDS OF TOMORROW), Whitney Houston, Anna Kendrick, Sam Elliott (I wanted to call him 'Sam Houston' ... and that has nothing to do with 'Whitney Houston,' but more that Sam Elliott is about as iconic as the Texas-legend for which the Texas-town is named),

... Melanie Griffith, Eric Bana, Deion Sanders, news-anchor Chris Cuomo, Audrey Tautou ('The Holy Grail' of THE DA VINCI CODE), news-anchor Hoda Kotb, Liz Vassey (Wendy Simms on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Bill Skarsgard (Pennywise in It (2017)), Thomas Lennon (Lt. Jim Dangle, RENO 911!) ... and lots more I don't recognize (maybe you do recognize some ... you can find the date at the birthday-cohort link)

(and--if you or someone you know about has a birthday
today--please mention them (and how you know them or
-know about them) in the comments, thanks)

My Heart of the Nation calendar says that we (Catholics) are celebrating St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, with the clergy wearing Red Vestments in the Optional Memorial (Green Vestments otherwise)
