#BibleStudy (#WordByWord) #FirstCorinthians15Fiftyseven - What About those #KingJamesGrammar-Suffixes (the #eth #th #est & #st) @prayerDot/Org @CopelandNetwork
'Those suffixes' (below-hyperlinked to a .pdf explaining the grammar used in the KJV of The Bible) is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...
The suffix “-#eth” -#th# are used on second-person singular present-tense verbs (“-#est” -#st# on third-person singular present-tense).
Etymonline tells me that "Eth" is the 'transliteration' of "Ð, ð" that was used to refer to "'the usual assistant vowel in letter-names' (Century Dictionary)," "Th" ... lotsa random info; including that the "Ye" (in Ye Olde Shoppe etc.) was actually pronounced 'The,' but they used the "Y" because it more-closely resembled the 'TH'-Thorn (þ) which the makers of the printing-press hadn't included in their type-set.
And they tell me that "Est" is Latin for "Is" (in the Latin "Id Est (abbreviated #IE (i.e.)) |That |Is'"); and that "St" is ... well, they don't exactly "say" but they 'indicate' that it's only 'the abbreviation of |Saint.'
This comes up because of the Kenneth Copeland Ministries sent me a birthday-card with the KJV of the verse 1 Corinthians 15:57 (along with various 'redemptorandi') in it:
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the VICTORY through our LORD Jesus Christ.
