'Those words' (below-hyperlinked to CMCC's explanation of- and advice against-Urban Sprawl) is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...
Urban Sprawl is the condition where a city is built so that you need a motor-vehicle to comfortably get from one 'Area Type' (like 'a Residential zone') to a different one (an 'Industry' zone).
The word “#Urban” (#Suburban #Urbane #Suburb #Urbanize #Suburbs #Urbanization #Burbs #Urbanity #UrbanLegend #Urbanisation #Urbanite) is built on ancient words that mean "Refined, Courteous (literally City, Walled Town ... sometimes Witty, |Facetious, |Bold, |Impudent; sometimes "of a Racial |Minority (as in #UrbanRenewal '|Slum |Clearance')")."
The word “#Sprawl” is built on ancient words that mean "to Strew (|Sprout)" (to |Spread- or Stretch-out in a Careless Manner, the |Straggling Expansion of |Built-Up Districts into the Surrounding Countryside). #Sprawling #Sprawled
I've been fighting Urban Sprawl since long before I knew it existed ... maybe even a little before it first killed me in 1995!
See ... forgetting for a second 'how the CMCC explains it'; I first learned about Urban Sprawl from (then) city-councilman Dr. Ed Shadid, who explained that Oklahoma City was designed 'to sell cars.'
(Maybe there were other reasons for the 'zones'--so that the businesses that were 'noisy' didn't disturb the areas that need 'quiet,' so that the businesses that were 'highly toxic' didn't pollute the areas that need to be 'clean,' etc.--but the main reason I was at his Town Hall Meeting was my frequent complaint about "needing rides to do anything in this city!")
But this problem is bigger than 'just needing a ride somewhere in Oklahoma City'; see:
