"The Ten #Commandments" (DeMille) Show that Jesus was mostly 'plagiarizing' #Moses (like @FLOTUS 'plagiarized' @MichelleObama) #TheTenCommandments #Command #Commandments
First of all, I understand people who would 'beg to differ'—saying that The Ten Commandments was 'just storytelling' when it portrayed Moses as a rebel prince who became a shepherd who returned to Egypt to lead his people to The Promised Kingdom; but I find that 'most people's knowledge of Scripture' comes from movies-etc. that portray Scripture-stories (and then from preachers-etc. who tell them what Scripture says, before 'actually reading the Scripture themselves').
But DeMille's Moses even notes how 'the people of Israel won't be freed by the sword, but by God's Shepherd.' (I don't know whether the writers were 'quoting the real Moses' there or 'retconing "a prophecy of the New Testament" into that "Old Testament"-story.')
I'm re-watching the Easter-broadcast of the classic (and thanks to AT&T U-verse's DVR-feature, I've recorded all 4-or-5 hours of it and can watch it in hour- or 'half hour'-intervals) ...
I'm most of the way through it, and the only "Commandment" given so-far (or maybe just a 'Command') is "Tell Pharaoh to 'Let My People Go!'").

The word “Commandments” (though the ones I'm talking about are also called עשרת הדברים (transliterated aseret ha-d'varîm) and in Mishnaic Hebrew עשרת הדברות (transliterated aseret ha-dibrot), which also translate "Words, |Matters, Sayings, |Verses") is built on “Order (from an Authority), |Recommend, |Entrust to (|Commend)” (Commit, Mandate).
The name “Moses” is built on “Great |Leader, Prophet & Law-|Giver” (I'm not sure if that's 'what it originally meant' or 'what the meaning that the man himself applied to it the way he lived'—I recall the name's meaning being something like 'Saved from the |Water,' and that name was given by the Egyptian Princess who found him ... nope, it's the name his Hebrew mother told the Princess (since she had saved him by putting him in the water)).
Besides Moses, there were his brother Aaron, his sister Miriam, his birth-mother Yoshabel (Joshabed? ... his birth-father's name was Amram, but I think he had passed-on when Moses was reunited with his Hebrew family), his Egyptian adopted-mother Bithia, his adopted-uncle (or -grandfather?) Pharoah Seti, his adopted-cousin Pharoah Rameses (named after their father), Moses' ex-girlfriend/adopted-cousin-in-law Nefertiri, his wife Sephora/Zipporah, his father-in-law Jethro ...
Others not related to him: Hebrew slave-governor Dathan, who stole the position of master-builder from the Egyptian named Baka, stonecutter Joshua (husband of Lilia), Bithiah's maid Memnet ...
And God ("I Am that I Am," Yahweh, 'the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob (whom God renamed "Israel," though the Old Testament Jews usually used the name "Jacob" there)') ... he spoke to Moses from The Burning Bush, and I think he'll show up later to deliver:
And God ("I Am that I Am," Yahweh, 'the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob (whom God renamed "Israel," though the Old Testament Jews usually used the name "Jacob" there)') ... he spoke to Moses from The Burning Bush, and I think he'll show up later to deliver:
- The Ten Commandments (copied here in case the image above doesn't show ... and maybe to talk about a few of the specific words therein)
- I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD. YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD AND HIM ONLY SHALL YOU SERVE.
- YOU SHALL NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD YOUR GOD IN VAIN.
- REMEMBER TO KEEP HOLY THE SABBATH DAY.
- HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER.—said to be "the first commandment that comes with a promise, as the complete Scripture there goes on, "... that thy days may be favorable in the land."
- YOU SHALL NOT KILL (some versions are more specific and say it's 'thou shalt not "commit murder"').
- YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.
- YOU SHALL NOT STEAL.
- YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS (most often explained to mean "Don't Tell Lies," but more-specifically means 'Don't say things happened in a particular way (especially "saying specific people were there") if you weren't there yourself or if you don't trust any witness's story about it.')
- YOU SHALL NOT COVET YOUR NEIGHBOR'S WIFE.
- YOU SHALL NOT COVET YOUR NEIGHBOR'S GOODS.
- That may not be 'the exact Ten Commandments' ... wasn't there one about 'trespassing'?
