The word “Green” is built on ancient words that mean “Grow” (like Grass).

The Green Party is a political group which (as you can see at the 'Green'-link above) aims to reaffirm (what you might call) 'our ecological origins'—mostly-supporting:
Universal "Social Security," Jobs for All, Living Wages, 30-Hour Work-Week, Social Dividends, "Universal Health Care," Free Child Care, Lifelong Public Education, Affordable Housing,  
Community Assemblies, a Proportional Representation in- & 'Single Chamber' US Congress, Environmental Home-Rule,  
Average Workers' Pay for Elected Officials, DC Statehood (like Vatican City's country-hood), Preference Voting (instead of choosing one candidate, you rank all the candidates in order-of-your-preference), Public Campaign- & Party-Financing, Fair Ballot-Access (to get a new party onto the ballot), Eliminate Mandatory Primaries, ... 
etc., etc....
A lot of their positions seem logical; as an Independent, I can adopt- or reject these positions as I see fit.
