@OurClimateNow reveals How Capitalism infects us with a #Puritanical Work-Ethic ... I'd Tie it to #2Thessalonians3Ten @RDispatches @theBibleHub (doing it #VerseByVerse, #WordByWord)
The video (linked through the bold text) tells us how work (under (small-d)
democratic Capitalism) is killing us, and says our work-ethic is ...
... “Puritanical”---"pertaining to the #Puritans or to their Doctrines or Practices." The word "Puritans" is a word built on the word "Purity" (earlier it referred to Protestants against the |Anglican Hierarchy, then those who sought Reformation in the Church of England, and so-on to a member of any Faith/|Sect/Party who looked for Purity of Doctrine or Practice).
just like #Puritanically #Impuritan #Puritanism #Puritans
I'm not sure which passage the image above is quoting, but the one I think it's talking about (in the article linked through the picture) is 2 Thessalonians 3:10 ( #SecondThessalonians3Ten, #2Thessalonians310 #SecondThessaloniansThreeTen #2ThessaloniansThreeTen #2ThessaloniansThree10 #SecondThessaloniansThree10): "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat."
Often, preachers/politicians will spout that last part out (as if it's
preceded by nothing but "And God said ..."), making me suspicious it was
actually something the persecutors said. But no, it was the Apostles'
"command." (And the title of that section of the epistle--for a little
context--was "Warning against Idleness.")

The was the Word that came after the disciples reminded the Thessalonians of the behavior they displayed as they stayed with them (on the very first "Missions"-trip)---"... we were not undisciplined among you, nor did we eat anyone's food without paying for it. Instead, in labor and toil, we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you ... an example for you to imitate."
Of course, they weren't working for 'an employer who granted them a wage for
their time laboring; they gave 'all the wealth & effort they could' in
exchange for 'all the food & shelter/clothing/medicine they needed.'
(I'm sure many workers start out that way---working as much as they can,
trusting that their elders will pay the appropriate amount for the quality of
their work (and--if they're not earning 'as much as their work is worth'--the
elders/employers will probably increase their pay if they only ask (and maybe
threaten to stop working))).
