"Peck" is a meaning in the base of "Peck" (featured in my "Pick Your Plate"-post linked through 'that word' below); but first I want to understand that word better. And I find you understand words better if you look at 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum)
The word “Peck” is built on ancient words that mean "to |Strike with the |Beak (possibly while Picking at Food (|Grub) to Eat)" (also the term for (about) One-Eighth of a |Bushel, but not exact since it was more like an |Allowance of Oats for one's Horses).
