#BibleStudy: #BookOfGenesis | @Wikipedia @BibleStudyTools

A list of that- and all the other-names of books-of-The-Bibl is linked through 'the main word' below; but I feel it's more important to understand that word better. And I find that you understand words better when you look at the other words at the bases of the words you're thinking-of ...

The name |Genesis| is built on ancient words that mean "the Generations of Heaven & Earth" (the popular (Sunday School) idea that its base means "in the Beginning" comes from the fact that most books-of-the-Old-Testament are named after 'their Opening Phrases,' which is where the book gets its Hebrew name ברשית (Bereshit)).

Sources tell Wikipedia that "the book of Genesis" is based on four textual witnesses (The Masoretic Text, The Samaritan Pentateuch, The Septuagint & The Qumran Fragments) from four sources (the Yahwist, the Elohist, the Deuteronomist & the Priestly source). Those 'witnesses' and 'sources' might be good to examine.

Genesis speaks of beginnings and is foundational to the understanding of the rest of the Bible. It is supremely a book that speaks about relationships, highlighting those between God and his creation, between God and humankind, and between human beings.
