'That word' (below-hyperlinked to ComicVine's explanation of Thor Odinson's current status) is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...
The word “Banished” is built on ancient words that mean "to |Order Prohibition under |Penalty (Ban)" (|Bandit ... #Banishes #Banishing #Banish).
That word comes up when I watch (for the first time in years) MARVEL's THOR, and I see the scene where Odin All-Father strips Thor of his supernatural powers and declares him banished and sends him to Earth.
And then they go into all the 'legalese': carrying-out his will after he goes into Odinsleep, etc.
The was the "loophole" he whispered into the Uru-hammer Mjolnir before he threw it to Earth after Thor, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."
ComicVine describes how Thor's current status is "not King, but not Exiled"; but I'm not sure if Odin All-Father himself ever lifted the banishment.
