Proclaiming its 'fierce localness and independence,' the Oklahoma Gazette tells its readers:
News is no longer black & white & read all over.
Oklahoma is not straight. Or white. Or conservative. Or Christian. Oklahoma contains a multitude of voices that need to be heard and stories that need to be told. OKG is here to tell them.
Fiercely Local and Independant
Of course, that's not to say that 'Oklahoma is LGBTQ... or Latino (or some other culture) or liberal (or some other political leaning) or Buddhist (or any other religion/spiritual-persuasion).' The announcement is saying that our population (and thus the news they are affected-by/the-cause-of) is more diverse than can be defined by any sexual-preference or cultural-background or political-view or supernatural-belief.
(Perhaps there are "obvious" beliefs we all share–that life should be happy, that happiness is good, that good is something we all want, that 'something we all want' is worth money, that more money makes life easier, that easy life costs a lot of money, etc.–but a) some people might not 'believe' all those things (within 'legal boundaries') and b) 'what you believe' doesn't change 'what the news is.'
The word “Diversity” is built on ancient words that mean “|Turned |Different Ways; Aside + to |Bend (|Different in Kind or Character)” (Divert).
