#Bill (possibly short for #William, possibly #Wilhelm ... or not---#BillGates #BillClinton #BillBurr #BillMurray ...) #Wil #Will #Wilma #Wilmer
The word (and sometimes-name) “Bill” is built on ancient words that mean “Bubble, Boss, |Stud, |Amulet for Neck (Seal); to |Cut, Strike (|Sword with a |Blade that's Hooked like a Bird's |Beak, |Cudgel, Block of |Wood, |Ax)” (the bird-beak meaning came to mean "to Stroke beaks like |Doves do"—to Kiss & |Caress & Talk |Nonsense like Lovers (bill and coo)).
'Everyone knows' Bill is short for "William." But that doesn't mean 'Bill's real name is William' ... it could be, but possibly not; like my middle name is "Harry" ... a name that's often short for "Harold," but 'Harold' isn't my name!
Or Homer Simpson's middle-name, "Jay." It might be 'a short-form of' a few other names–Jason, Jefferson, Jules, etc.–but "the middle-name on Homer Simpson's birth-certificate" is nothing but 'Jay.'
Still ... since you're probably expecting the etymology of 'William' (and maybe a few other names) here ...
