Is there a difference between the two?

I discuss the two words in a paying forum you can access through 'the emboldened link(s)' below; and you can join and earn some spare change too, but first I want to teach you about those words. And I find you understand words better if you see 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum into their Foundation)
The word “Homily” is built on ancient words that mean "Together With as One + Troop, Band, Crowd, Assembly, Soldier."
#Linen is the meaning of one of the foundations deep beneath the word "Sermon." The word “Linen” is built on ancient words that mean "Flax."

Belonging Begins With Us's presentation of the Homily & the Sermon:
The Sermon:
and the Sermon?
... and I still can't tell the difference (except that 'the homily' looks more like 'a team-plan announced by its leader,' where 'the sermon' is sort of a 'lecture that individual listeners can take to heart if they want'); Can you make out any differences?
