#Fortnite ... must be a 'Cool Kids'-thing, coz a Geek/Nerd Like Me only learns about it from the Shared Data from @Bing @biindia @Techinsider @getFandom | @FortniteGame @FNcreate @FortniteStatus @FortTory @FortniteBR etc.

Microsoft Rewards gave me a link to their search-engine's results on the game's name, and--for all the interesting facts they share about the Massive Online Shooter--the one that 'pulled me in' (convincing me to find their wiki*) was the fact that Fortnite was the first-ever game to allow players on all platforms to play together (unlike my favorite--KLONDIKE--where 'the platform I play on' doesn't allow interaction with players on other platforms

(... though they might mean 'gaming systems' (Playstation,
 XBox ... I dunno; Sega? Nintendo? ... Commodore 64?)
and not 'social-network websites' ... .. or maybe they mean
 both! ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ).
FANDOM-users fully explain FORTNITE in a report linked through 'that name' below; but first I want to understand that name better. And I find you understand names better if you look at 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum)

The name “FORTNITE” is built on a) the game's original object, which was to survive for the in-game equivalent of a #Fortnight, & b) the fact that--in order to survive--you've got to build & maintain a Fort (or two or three) against the creatures that come out at Night
The word "Fortnight" is a portmanteau of Fourteen (Four-and-Ten) & Nights (hearkening back to the time when days were measured by nights (e.g. when Sabbaths began (Americans would call it) 'the night before'), when 'New Year's Eve' literally was the Evening of New Year's Day )which came before the Morning) ...)

*Funny how 'Wiki' now means "website with all the facts
