The Difference between the #Emoticon & the #Emoji

I didn't know there was a difference;

But a fellow forum-member explained it at the post linked through 'the main word' below (where you can earn money by joining in on the conversation); but first I want to understand those words better. And I find that you understand words better when you look at the other words at the bases of the words you're thinking-of ...
The word “Emoticon” is apparently a portmanteau of Emotion and Icon. 
The word “Emoji” is built on the Japanese words for Picture & Character.
