Why is @Scientology''s #Edifice so-much-like Christianity's #Emblem (when THIS would be a more appropriate icon?) | #ChurchOfGreatGod (#CGG) @AETV #LoreOfEnergyAndLight @Britannica | #Edificial #Emblems #Edifices #Emblematic

Well, 'that confusion comes up' in the forum linked-to through "that word" below.

What I show here is 'the group of words' that give "that word" a place to connect to your vocabulary ... deeper sources that firm the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...

The word “Edifice” is built on ancient words that mean "a Place with a Hearth + to Do, Make, Set, Put."
The word “Emblem” is built on ancient words that mean "to |Throw- or Reach In (see |En-)."

The question (which is a totally different topic from the discussion) comes up because--while ex-Scientologist Leah (Second Act's "Joan") Remini- and others say Scientology's edifice signifies "the eight 'Dynamics' (urges for survival that Scientology affirms)"--the edifice more-closely resembles The Christian Cross than 'something symbolizing eight equally-powerful urges.'

(I was going to ask, 'Why does Scientology's "emblem" look so much like Christianity's?' but a) when I say 'Scientology's emblem,' I think of their "S with two triangles" (posted somewhere below) & b) "edifice" indicates something more complicated than the simple proposition of Christianity's cross ... something like The Eight Dynamics of Scientology (or The Eightfold Path of Buddhism))

Scientology's 'cross' should look like this.; but now I'm looking to see if there's any reason (or excuse) Scientology gives for 'making one Dynamic "too long" and making four of them "insignificant."'

They explain it a little ... basically just to say "it's an eight-point cross meant to symbolize the Eight Dynamics," and that "the use of the cross as a symbol predates Christianity" ... while I'm sure that that's true, it smacks of 'what the ex-Scientologists said on an episode of SATA'---that Scientologists take 'the writings of L. Ron Hubbard' as "absolute truth."

Going-ahead-and-trying-to-verify "the word of L.," I first see Encyclopedia Britannica's entry for Cross. It mostly focuses on the Christian's symbol, but also briefly mentions the Egyptians' |Ankh (crux ansata). (They also mention the Swastika (crux gammata), but say that it was only used to veil 'the symbol of the cross' on the tombs of still-under-persecution Christians).

Asking more-specifically (about 'the cross before Christianity'), I'm taken to the website of a church that believes The Cross was never Christian, that it was actually (another) pagan symbol Christians repurposed to fit with their belief-system.
