What does it even mean to be "saved"? The Sunday-school definition is something like 'ya get ta go ta Heaven when ya die' (of course not "in body," which is 'dust that returns to the dust'; but your spirit--the inner spark that turns your body into a soul--is "safe" in Heaven).
That's what the root of Saved means---safe. And the root of Heaven means 'Vault' (well, more like 'Covered by the Stones of the Vault of Heaven').
Hmm ... being "saved" means you're 'safe in Heaven'---that's a whole rabbit-hole I can go down later, but right now I'm wondering what that has to do with The Name (Lord Christ Jesus (son of Joseph, heir of David) yes, but more-importantly by the Reputation tied to it).
We are "saved" because we agree that we are heirs of Abraham (through our rebirth as children of The Promise of The Covenant).
... That catches me in a whole `nother rabbit-hole--Jesus' ancestry back to Adam (family we're 'adopted into' by the Blood-Covenant ... bringing up the importance of blood in the Dracula-story, etc.). But for right now we're concentrating on 'that word' (meaning of the root of "Saved" ... below-hyperlinked to Dr. Robert Jeffress's explanation of "how you know for-sure you are saved") is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...
The word “#Safe” is built on ancient words that mean "|Whole, |Well-|Kept." #Safely #Safety #SafeGuard #SafeKeeping
Dr. Jeffress there cites 'proof in The Bible' that we're "saved" by 'believing on Jesus' (which he reminds us is not "agreeing to a set of facts about Jesus" the way we say 'we believe Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves' or we say 'we believe George Floyd was murdered by police-officers,'
(the way people think they're "saved" because they believe that Jesus was the heir-apparent of the King of the Jews, was born of a virgin, was executed without committing a crime and was resurrected three days later when He then rose into the heavens above---but demons believe that too!)
He then goes on to explain how 'believing on/in Jesus' is different from 'believing of/about Jesus,' but my mind skips to "the root of the word 'Believe'"---more like 'trusting a hero to save the endangered captives' than 'agreeing that they've done-so already.'
