In a thread on Twitter ... I'm not sure exactly what we were talking about (you can go see, if you like), but the topic of 'shopping local vs. (in so-many words) "Amazon"' came up—mostly because I was curious if there was any 'affiliate-program' for local businesses that could 'compete' with Amazon Affiliates.

And someone suggested Shopify ... I don't know if they were suggesting it for its affiliate-program, as much as -for its openness to local sellers internationally (i.e. suggesting that local sellers in the conversation go & join, more than -that affiliate-marketers sign up to promote it).

Before I dive deeper into "researching it," I'll examine 'those words' (Shopify, Amazon ... below-hyperlinked to my 'pages*' for each retail-network), to see how they're built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...
(I'm
 'waiting on approval' from Shopify,
so I'll link to their "Affiliates 101" until I'm approved ...)

The word “Shopify” is obviously built of the word "Shop" and the suffix "-ify."
The suffix "-ify" is built on ancient words that mean "to |Set, |Put."

Even if Shopify manages to 'take the place of' Amazon regarding "general online-shopping," 1) Bezos won't suffer that much—not only because his current 'vast fortune' ought to last a while, but also because 2) he'll probably still do a lot of bookstore-business, and 3) AWS ... it's probably powering most of the networks you'll ever see! (I don't remember much about it, to be honest—only a little bit of what I heard about it from Hasan Minhaj (video below))

(The chart of 'online retail coverage-levels' at 4:00 ... I can't believe I didn't wonder about eBay or Wayfair! I also didn't know Apple, Walmart, Home Depot, Best Buy, Macy's & CostCo were even 'making a dent' online; and I've never heard of Qurate Retail!

(Maybe they should all go to Shopify, to unite against the Corporate Overlords ...)
